June 1st, Sunday
International Children’s Day (国际儿童节)
Children’s Day, also known as International Day for Protection of Children, was established by the Women’s International Democratic Federation on it’s congress in Moscow in November 1949.
One-day holiday at Kindergartens.
June 2nd, Monday
Dragon boat festival (端午节)
A traditional and statutory holiday in China.
The festival occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar.
People eat Zongzi and race dragon boats.
June 6th, Friday
Mang zhong (芒种)
The 9th of the 24 important Chinese traditional festivals celebrated around June 6th when the Sun reaches the celestial longitude of 75°.
It’s a harvesting season for wheat and seeding season for rice.
In southern part of China, people eat plum compote.
June 7th, Saturday – 9th, Monday
The National College Entrance Examination (高考)
The most important day for high school students.
Universities select new students based on the score from this exams.
June 15th, Sunday
Father’s Day (父亲节)
A celebration honoring fathers on the 3rd Sunday in June.
Sales promotions are very hot from the beginning of the month.
June 21st, Saturday
Summer Solstice (夏至)
It’s a longest day in the year.
The 10th of the 24 important Chinese traditional festivals celebrated around June 21st when the Sun reaches the celestial longitude of 90°.
People say “Wonton for winter solstice, noodle for summer solstice.”
Mid – End of June
High school Entrance Examination (中考，考高中)
School entrance exam season for primary and junior high school students.
School graduation season follows after the exam season.
